4GENE has the scientific background
With an enormous head start, 4GENE developed the technology platform for the glycosylation of small molecules and took it to industrial dimensions. 4GENE has a scientific background and was created as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich. The seed financing was taken over by the respected High-Tech Gründerfonds, VC Fonds BW, Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg GmbH and Goldmann International GmbH.
With the 4GENE technology, almost all flavors and fragrances can be converted into the glycoside form.
To the cosmetics industry, this is a revolution – instead of marketing promises of a long-lasting aroma, every skin cream can now actually deliver it. The fragrances in bound form can be pre-produced and then mixed into the final product. They can be stored and are easily transportable. Aromas which can be activated can also mean a breakthrough in the food industry: in addition to semi-ready and ready meals, professional products in the catering industry also benefit from the technology which enables the right aroma and flavor to be released at the desired time. Completely new active ingredient concepts can also be implemented in the pharmaceutical sector.
The technology
For the fragrance and flavor sector, we have successfully solved all development and manufacturing problems for our “FLAVOR-ON-DEMAND” technology. Unlike free flavors, 4GENE products are non-volatile, chemically more stable, more water-soluble and can be activated in a dedicated manner. The technology can also be used for both natural and synthetically produced flavorings. The bio-technical process for the industrial production of the flavor glucosides enables them to be used commercially in a wide range of consumer products. A close co-operation with industrial partners is sought and already exists with the first companies from the cosmetics, perfume and food sectors as well as the automotive and machine industries.
