4GENE gives active ingredients a new life
Dosage and tolerability, in addition to the general effect, are the keys to success in the case of pharmaceutical products. Glycosylation allows for the optimization of new and already known active ingredients. Increased water solubility, bio-availability and a depot effect that can be used through glycosylation give priority to the patient’s well-being. In addition, the active ingredients prepared in this way can also be re-patented in the new dosage form and thus receive a second life after the corresponding clinical tests.
For its first medicinal product, 4GENE has optimized the active ingredient paracetamol into a paracetamol derivative and has applied for a patent.
The technology platform can optimize a large number of small molecules of the most varied of characteristics – flavors, aromas and active pharmaceutical ingredients – through the process of glycosylation and also make them more effective.
Easy processing in industry
The release can take place in or on the body though microbial or human glucosidases, both when ingested through the saliva and later in the intestine. The active ingredient itself can be produced in the new form by the pharmaceutical industry within the existing process chains without any problems. Tried and tested active ingredients and medicines can be given a second life and become a blockbuster again. The process of glycosylation is possible with numerous active ingredients.

Benefits for the pharmaceutical industry
- Tried and tested active ingredients can be relaunched
- New patents are possible for the new variants
- The patient’s well-being benefits
- Therapies and medications can be planned differently and over a longer period of time
- The tolerability is expected to be better
In addition to paracetamol, further trials are currently running with other active ingredients and the first industrial partners are already working with 4GENE on the future of glycosylated active ingredients.
